Celebrated singer Zubeen Garg died on September 19, 2025.

The Assam CID on Wednesday, October 1, arrested singer Zubeen Garg’s manager Siddhartha Sharma and North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta in connection with the probe into the artist’s death.

Mahanta was detained at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport soon after landing from Singapore, while Sharma was picked up from a Gurugram apartment. Both are being interrogated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the State government.

Garg died in Singapore on September 19 after allegedly drowning while swimming without a life jacket. A hospital death certificate cited drowning as the cause, though Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said a detailed postmortem report is awaited.

Earlier, Assam Police had also detained musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who accompanied Garg in Singapore. Sharma’s Guwahati residence saw unrest last week after fans clashed with police.

The arrests follow the Sarma’s ultimatum asking Sharma and Mahanta to appear before CID by October 6.
