Indian Railways, one of the world’s largest employers with over 12.3 lakh employees, has witnessed a steady rise in the participation of women in its workforce

Indian Railways, recognized as one of the largest employers globally with a workforce exceeding 1.23 million, has experienced a consistent increase in female participation within its ranks.

Currently, the number of women employees has exceeded 113,000, representing 8.2% of the total workforce, up from 6.6% in 2014.

Women are significantly contributing to the railway network in multiple roles. An official report indicates that there are currently 2,162 women employed as loco pilots, alongside 794 women serving as train managers (guards).

Furthermore, 1,699 female station masters are actively engaged throughout India, playing a vital part in ensuring the efficient operation of railway services.
